Before the Parade Passed By

The road to Super Bowl LII was like no other ride we’ve taken at OVP Crews. We’ve had some time to reflect on the 2017 NFL season, going all the way back to our training camp interview with Carson Wentz on a hot summer’s day.

For Dominic and our OVP Crews team, this past Super Bowl had a different vibe. We had a connection to one of the teams. Throughout the season, Lincoln Financial Field was like a second home to us. If there was an Eagles story to cover, we were there. So it was exciting to see one of the teams we cover regularly make it all the way to Minneapolis.

One of the biggest challenges of this particular Super Bowl was the weather. Yes, the actual game was played inside, but some of our work leading up to the big game was done outside. Just getting from point a to point b meant we had to deal with single digit temperatures nearly every single day. Sometimes temps went below zero, and we’re not talking about a wind chill factor! We had to prep our equipment to handle the fluctuating thermometers in various environments. We were all suited up in lots of layers of winter clothing for long hours in the extremely cold temps. Our team never missed a beat, and we learned the value of thermals, again.

We spent several days working — not shopping — in the Mall of America. We had multiple crews in multiple locations with multiple reporters and producers. It was also nice to see familiar faces from other networks throughout the week. There is a special camaraderie at the big game.

We’ve been lucky enough to cover the Super Bowl for years. From media day, to the energy at the pregame live shots in the stadium bright and early Sunday morning, to seeing the Lombardi trophy hoisted into the air, this assignment never gets old. There is always a certain wow factor and energy resonating from a Super Bowl, which you just don’t get elsewhere.

This one, this Super Bowl, was one for the history books. The Eagles had their first ever Super Bowl Championship parade, and we were on the streets of Philadelphia to cover the entire thing. Talk about an exciting season, from start to finish, we were there. On the field. Interviewing players and coaches. With reporters. Bringing fans football like they’ve never seen before. And for the Eagles to take home the hardware, a team we’ve worked with for years, felt like a big win for OVP too!
